Dispatch Opportunity - Entry-Level Role

Spur Freight provides supply chain and transportation services to clients throughout Texas. We operate clean, highly secure, and professional fulfillment and warehousing services in our facilities in Austin and San Antonio. Our warehouse management system allows us to scan all products and provide our clients with online visibility to their inventory. We also operate a fleet of tractor trailers based at those two facilities proving intra Texas freight transport.

We are a rapidly growing, locally owned company, looking for “A” level candidates for our Dispatcher Specialist role. We define “A” players as being in the top 10% compared to similar positions for the same pay scale. We are looking for an exceptional individual with strong Dispatch experience that have demonstrated they are team oriented, have a positive outlook and attitude, have a strong work ethic and are self starters. Essential Functions:

  • Works in conjunction with other departments to provide unparalleled client service.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of proprietary operational systems, including but not limited to MS Office products, Dispatch software and 3PL software.
  • Arranges pick up and delivery appointments with our clients, shippers and receivers.
  • Tracks shipments and provide status updates to clients while updating in our database.
  • Assigns daily routes for a growing team of CDL drivers with our own fleet of intra Texas trucking.
  • Assists with DOT compliance processes and paperwork handling, including driver communications of compliance expectations.
  • Communicates effectively with drivers and customers in fast-paced environment with rapid changes that needs effective resolutions.
  • Assists drivers with routing directions and communicates special service requirements.
  • Confers with customers or supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.
  • Determines types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required according to work orders or specifications.

Other Responsibilities:

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Minimal travel may be required (up to 10%). 


Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of experience in a dispatcher role.  Experience working with local cartage operations and/or inventory control experience is a plus but not required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required. Proven experience with providing exceptional customer service and possessing effective time management skills. Previous DOT or compliance is a plus but not required. Proven ability to identify areas of opportunity within the macro process. Proven ability to supervise, delegate and distribute tasks in an environment with rapid change. This role will be technology centric (iPhone, Microsoft, Google, 3PL Software, etc.), therefore proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and proficiency with prior 3PL warehousing software is necessary. Will need to be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication as both the communicator and the receiver. Ideally will have a high ability to remain calm and methodical during very high paced and stressful operations.

Physical Requirements:  Position requires: ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 50-75 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.  The noise level in the work environment is medium.
