This position will be responsible for building our client-oriented global freight forwarding team from the ground up in our San Antonio branch.

A brief summary of the Role and Responsibilities you will be involved in:

The primary role of the Operations Team Manager is to provide unparalleled customer service in alignment with our core values through the daily supervision of their assigned freight forward team. This role is accountable for the fulfillment of our brand promise and our core value of Happy Clients. Operations Team Managers are key to our organization as they provide motivation, recognition, coaching, training and problem solving guidance for our freight forwarding team. This role utilizes their expertise in leading the team to provide simple solutions for complex problems. This is a player/coach role; initially handling local freight forwarding operations on their own, and later building a support team as the local business needs grow and we shift local freight forwarding operations from our corporate office to the local San Antonio branch. 

Essential Functions:

  • Represents Intelligent Logistics, LLC. / Mainfreight services in offering unparalleled customer service.
  • Leads Mainfreight and Intelligent Logistics Operations team to ensure that customers are offered innovative solutions when presenting complex requests.  
  • Leads both domestic and international freight forwarding operations with expertise in all transport modes (air/ocean import and export) at San Antonio Branch.  
  • Leads the daily management of assigned Client Service Team’s KPI’s, including, but not limited to ensuring effective client communications, team shipment integrity, team shipment milestone follow-up and team client accountability/retention.
  • Handles weekly compliance and audit tasks, including the KPI reporting (weekly) and file audits.
  • Champions “Happy Clients” and leads by example to ensure we offer unparalleled customer service.
  • Completes performance and comp reviews in coordination with the Operations Manager as assigned.
  • Ensures effective communication and feedback to the team and other key stakeholders including regular team meetings and 1:1 meetings with team members.
  • Handles team member’s training, departmental on-boarding and compliance training as required.
  • Communicates back to internal groups the outcome of the client requests/negotiations/proposals, so the entire team is focused on any client updates.
  • Focuses on conveying the expectations set forth for each team, i.e. providing clear direction, critical time frames and expectations for each team member.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with freight forwarding departmental compliance program, including any applicable global laws and regulations. 
  • Provides backup to other Operations Manager and/or the Director of Operations as assigned.

Other Responsibilities:

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Schedule: Full-time, Regular Exempt

Travel: Minimal, 10% to 15% of the time, mostly between Austin/San Antonio

Key Criteria/Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant industry certification is strongly preferred. At least 5 years of international freight forwarding experience with an expert level knowledge of both domestic and international freight forwarding in all transport modes (air/ocean import and export). Prior freight forwarding team management experience of 3-5 years is preferred. Must be able to build a team from the ground up in an environment of rapid change with offsite departmental leadership. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Capable of professional face to face client communications and effective presentation skills. Proven demonstration of industry compliance. Proven ability to lead, delegate and distribute tasks in an environment with rapid change. Able to lead by example and ability to be involved in every part of the freight forwarding process to ensure that each step is done correctly.

Physical Requirements:  Position requires: ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.  The noise level in the work environment is low.
